What’s “Gloriously Awkward Life”?

The original idea came from from Jeff Foxworthy, who defined the term “redneck” as “a glorious absence of sophistication.”

The fact is, I suck at video games, so one of my earlier handles was GloriousAbsenceofSkill. It stuck for a while, viewers and friends got a huge kick out of it. I still have it on a couple of Christian stream team tee shirts.

But gaming on its own became boring and I wanted to do more writing and blogging, given where I’m located (hello, Disney World is less than a half-hour away). So I chose GloriouslyAwkwardLife. I’ve also gone much more into things like creating and 3D printing rather than games. I no longer have a gaming PC; I switched to Apple everything last year.

As I started reestablishing my roots over the last year or so here in east-central Florida, which included finding a new church home and becoming a partner with them, I found that the Christian life itself could best be described as “awkward” compared to the life that “the world” seeks to live.

Paul put it best, I suppose:

For the message of the cross is foolishness [absurd and illogical] to those who are perishing and spiritually dead [because they reject it], but to us who are being saved [by God’s grace] it is [the manifestation of] the power of God.
—1 Corinthians 1:8, Amplified Bible

To “the world,” I’m awkward; I’m also awkward simply because I’m type 1 autistic as well. But because of the cross I’m gloriously awkward.

So that’s what I’m about—living a gloriously awkward life. And that’s how this name and handle came about.
